Media
Services supports the WNC curriculum by purchasing media equipment and other audio-visual materials. They also provide copying
services for items that accompany WNC classroom-related materials and textbooks.
Faculty may request computer projection equipment (data projectors), video/DVD
players, and other equipment for use in their classrooms. Check the links to the left to find
out about other materials and services they provide.
The Carson and Fallon Campuses maintain a collection of 4,000 videos and DVDs for the use of WNC instructors. Any faculty member can request videos for preview or in-class use. Videos may be borrowed from either campus and sent to any WNC teaching location. (Instructors in the Prison Program must pick up and return items directly from the Library on the Carson Campus.)
DVDs and videos can be located by using the DVD/Video section of the online library catalog. After locating the item, faculty can reserve it for use on a specific day using this DVD/Video Request Form. (Faculty must supply their WNC email address and password to access the form.) Videos that are housed at another campus library should be reserved at least one week in advance of its desired use. The library staff will confirm requests through e-mail. If the item is on the same campus where faculty teach, they should come to the library circulation desk to pick it up when needed.
WNC faculty may also borrow videos from the University of Nevada, Reno through Media Services. UNR media are listed in the online library catalog. To narrow your search to videos and other audio-visual material, select "UNR MultiMedia Center" in the location field. Requests for UNR media must be made at least two weeks prior to the intended date of use using the DVD/Video Request Form. The more lead time provided, the greater the likelihood that the item will be available on the date requested. Media Services will confirm requests through e-mail as soon as they are received and processed. Faculty will be notified when the items arrive in the library for them to pick up. If viewing equipment is needed, it can be ordered using the equipment request form. If a title is not available locally , arrangements to rent media from an outside source must be made through the faculty member's division or department.
Media equipment may be loaned to college personnel for instructional purposes including: computers, computer projection units, video and digital cameras, video/DVD players and recorders, CD/audiocassette players and recorders, slide projectors, and other types of equipment. A 24-hour notice is required to ensure that the equipment is available and can be delivered to your teaching location on the requested date. Request equipment through the online Equipment Request Form.
Duplicating services are provided to college personnel with a minimum 48 hour notice. This includes recording students or faculty members in a classroom or guest speakers and performers at college events.
In some classes, compact discs supplement a textbook. Media Services will duplicate these CDs (if given sufficient lead time). Class related copying is free. Students only need to provide a blank replacement for each item copied. Copyright permission must be obtained in writing prior to copying.
