Library Accounts

Good news! You don't need a library card to use the library at WNC.

For WNC students:

  • Your account ID is your student ID number.
  • Your account password will be your WNC password.
  • All notifications will be sent to your student email address or the address registered with the college.

For ACCEL and Continuing Education students:

  • Please bring in a valid, state-issued, photo ID so that we can set you up with an account.
  • In general, ACCEL and Continuing Education students will use their 10-digit phone number (without parenthesis or dashes) as their ID.

Borrowing Materials

The amount of time materials may be checked out depends on what it is:

  • Books: Most books are due 3 weeks from the date they are checked out.
  • Course Reserve Books: These selections have specific limitations on them; some may only be used in the library for 2 hours, some may be checked out for 2 days, depending on the course.
  • Laptops: Laptops may be used in the library for up to 4 hours.
  • Chromebooks: Chromebooks are due by the end of the semester.

If you need to renew an item or check it out for a longer period of time, please contact the library.

Library Catalog

In order to find the books, articles, and other things the library has to offer, you will want to search the library catalog. You must sign in before you will be able to access any of the databases or articles.

Research Guides

Research (or subject) guides are lists of resources created by librarians to highlight particular information and sources that may be useful when researching a topic. They provide a good starting point, especially if it's an unfamiliar subject.

Course Reserves

The library does not usually have required textbooks unless the instructor of the class has placed a copy on reserve. Most reserve items may only be used in the library for short periods of time, depending on what the instructor has asked for.

All reserve materials can be requested at the circulation desk.

Kits and Equipment

The library also has an assortment of other kinds of educational materials for you to check out, such as:

  • Biology and anatomy models
  • Full skeletal model
  • Full musculature model
  • Chemistry molecule kits
  • Cameras (class enrollment required)
  • Early childhood education kits

Research Appointments

If you ever get stuck or just want some help, the library offers individual and small group research sessions where you can sit down with a librarian and work through the research process together. This can be done in person or via Zoom.

You can request an appointment by emailing us at refdesk@wnc.edu

Library Study Spaces

WNC students can reserve a study room up to two weeks in advance on our scheduling page.
